Power and Agility in a Lightweight Laser

The Elektron Vi30 is the lowest power laser made by Aeronaut. Even though the Elektron Vi30 has a power level of about 30% of a 100 watt laser, it can still cut lightweight paraglider and spinnaker cloth faster than 1000mm/sec (39"/sec). Of course heavier fabrics can still be cut, but at reduced speed compared with a 100 watt laser.

Not all watts are equal though. In real-world conditions, Aeronaut's 30 watt Elektron Vi30 cuts cruise weight Dacron sailcloth at the same speed as the glass tube 200 watt laser used by one of the world's largest sail manufacturers making this a very capable and economical laser cutter.

The Elektron Vi30 is a very practical laser cutter for businesses who need a laser but don't need to cut heavy fabric at high speed. For lightweight materials like most parachute and paraglider materials, it will cut at over a metre per second - as faster or faster than the higher powered lasers.  Of course it will cut heavier materials but not at the same speed as a 100 watt laser.

Laser cutters are really good tools for accurately cutting almost all synthetic textiles. The main reason is that during the cutting process, nothing touches or moves the fabric which is being cut. This makes for better accuracy. If markings are done with an inkjet printhead, the same thing applies… faster and more accurate markings.

Blade cutters can move fabric around on the cutting table, especially if the vacuum is not 100% or the fabric is very lightweight and not completely flat. Many customers with low power lasers cut heavy materials but because the laser cutting process is so hands-off, they can leave the laser cutting while they get on with another job.

Paragliders are an industry where Aeronaut laser cutters play an essential role. The Elektron Vi30 will cut canopies as fast as a 100 watt laser because if its light weight. Harnesses and accessories can also be cut but at a lower speed than a 100 watt laser.

 

Parachutes

Military and recreational parachutes are an area where Aeronaut is the dominant cutter manufacturer. With all-round edge sealing being an important requirement, a laser is the best tool for the job.

Low power lasers are perfect for canopies but if harnesses, containers and other products are cut, then a higher power laser is more efficient.

Microlights & Hang Gliders

With accuracy and edge sealing being so important with this work, the best tool for the job is a laser cutter. Since production output is not normally very critical, a low power laser can do the job well.

 

Sailmaking and Marine

The best cutter for spinnaker cloth is a laser. However lasers are also great for cutting light dacron and even heavier cruise materials, solarstop acrylic and many other marine fabrics.
